Prodotte in Giappone, scovate in un magazzino del quartiere di Ueno, a Tokyo, e sempre ai piedi della nazionale di basket nipponica negli anni Settanta: queste sneakers sono l’essenza della giapponesità. Molto simili alle Converse Chuck Taylor All-Star coeve, erano piuttosto diffuse sui parquet dei professionisti d’Europa, molto meno presso le due leghe (ai tempi il basket era ancora diviso fra ABA e NBA) statunitensi. Le Onitsuka Tiger Basket sono caratterizzate dal logo sulla tomaia e dalla suola che permetteva un grip perfetto sul campo, e soprattutto da un packaging eccezionale, quasi un kit militare: la scatola è ricca di dettagli pieni di stile, e nasconde un ulteriore box in plastica per proteggere le scarpe dall’umidità, che all’epoca era fornito con la maggior parte dei modelli Onitsuka Tiger. La quotazione di queste sneakers complete della straordinaria confezione si aggira intorno ai 500 dollari.

Made in Japan, discovered in a warehouse in the Ueno neighborhood, in Tokyo, and always used by the Japanese basket national during the Seventies: these sneakers are the essence of Japaneseness. Pretty similar to the Converse Chuck Taylor All-Star of the same period, they were rather used on the professional European parquets, much less upon the two American leagues (back then the ABA and the NBA would be separate).
The Onitsuka Tiger Basket are characterized by a logo on the upper and a sole enabling a perfect grip on the field, and more than that a super packaging, almost a military kit: the box is rich with details and style, and hides a further plastic box designed to protect the shoes against humidity, that at the time was offered together with most Onitsuka Tiger models.
